Being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) can be overwhelming, confusing and emotional. However, with a diagnosis also comes support from your designated MS  Team who will provide you with expert guidance, ongoing management and monitoring. Together you can learn to understand your MS and find out what works best for you, now, and in the future.

Here you will find information to help you through your diagnosis.

What is MS?

MS is an immune system disease that causes damage to your brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). ‘Sclerosis’ means scarring and refers to the damage to the nerves caused by MS. ‘Multiple’ is added because this can happen in more than one place in the brain. In this video, Consultant Neurologist, Dr Martin Duddy, explains what MS is and describes some of its symptoms.
